Orange County School Age Child Care (OCSACC) Frequently Asked Questions


1. What times do the OCSACC programs operate?

All four programs open at 6:30 am. Gordon Barbour and Orange Elementary close at 6:00 pm. Lightfoot and Locust Grove close at 6:30 pm.

2. What status options do you offer for care?

Families can choose Full-time (4-5 days per week) or Drop-in (1-3 days per week). Full-time status families pay for the full week regardless of attendance. Drop-in families pay for each day they attend or sign up to attend.

3. When will tax statements be ready?

Tax forms will be prepared tax statements by February 15th each year. Parents can also log into their portal and print their own statement at any time.

4. When are payments due for child care services?

Program charges will accrue on a weekly basis. All Child Care fees must be paid in advance of the child’s attendance, or the child will be unable to attend the program until fees are paid.

5. Do families receive vacation days throughout the year?

Parents who enroll their children as a full-time participant can accrue vacation days to use throughout their enrollment period when their child is absent due to a planned, or unplanned, absence. See the parent handbook on how vacation days are accrued.

6. What if my child has a medication they need to take while in care?

The OCSACC programs are trained to administer most medications.

7. Do the OCSACC programs have a "Screen Time" Usage Policy?

Yes. The OCSACC program values and encourages physical activity, interaction with peers, and both,imaginative and organized play. All childcare locations of the OCSACC program will be mindful of recreational screen time, allowing no more the 15% of its daily operating activity schedule to be reserved for recreational screen time viewing

8. Does the OCSACC programs have a "Sick Policy"?

Yes. In the event a child becomes ill and must be out of school and childcare for an extended amount of time, a doctor’s note is required. Once the note is on file, charges will accrue for the first three (3) days and will not begin again until the child returns to the childcare program.

9. Do families have to pay for holidays when the sites are closed?

OCSACC programs will be closed for the following Holidays when school is not in session: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th,Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. In addition, the programs may be closed for staff development days during the year and will be advertised in advance. Site Managers will post reminders of upcoming closures. Child Care fees will not be adjusted for these closings (with the exception of Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving) - normal payment will be required for those children who normally would be expected.

10. What happens if school is closed for weather or other unforeseen circumstances?

There will be NO fees assessed for full days closed due to inclement weather, or unforeseen circumstances. Site Managers will adjust the fee for the week to reflect a credit for days closed due to weather or other unpredictable occurrences. If the schools remain closed for an extended period of time, OCSACC will make every attempt to re-open the sites as soon as the roads and parking lots are safe for travel.

1.  What programs are available for me to volunteer my time?
The Office on Youth runs various programs throughout the course of the year. For more information please visit our local programs page.

2. How can I become a volunteer with the OOY Programs?
Volunteers are the heart of most of our programs. Please fill out the Volunteer Application and return it to the Office on Youth. Please be sure to fill out the forms completely as we request a complete background check on each of our volunteers.

3. How can I make a donation to a specific OOY Program?
You may submit your online donation at __________________. 

You can also drop off or mail your donation to 146 Madison Road, Suite 102, Orange, VA 22960. Please include a note with the donation as to which program you would like the donation to be credited to as well as a return address in order for our office to send a thank-you note and a tax deductible receipt.
